Oak Bluffs taxi collision sends four passengers to hospital

One taxi driver did not see the other taxi driver backing up, police said.

Oak Bluffs police and fire rescue personnel responded to a late night crash involving two taxi cabs on County Road about 11 pm, Saturday night.

Oak Bluffs Taxi cab company driver Bojan Balaban, 26, was traveling down County Road and overshot the turn to Tower Ridge Road. He was backing up when Vineyard Transport company driver Richard A. Cassiani, 69, who was also traveling in the same direction, ran into the back of Mr. Balaban’s vehicle, Oak Bluffs Police said.

One passenger in the first cab, and three passengers in the second cab, were transported to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. The drivers did not go to the hospital.

There was no information on their condition of the passengers but they were not thought to have sustained serious injuries, police said

Police cited both taxi drivers for negligent operation.
