The Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society is pleased to announce the awarding of $6,000 in grant funds to several local farmers. According to a press release, this year grants were awarded for mushroom cultivation, natural fiber and dyeing techniques, grain storage, plows, mowers, fencing, and more.
In 2016 the society received applications from 13 farmers requesting more than $24,000 in funds. The high number of applicants made the committee’s job especially difficult, as they were unable to fund several inventive and inspiring projects. In future years, the Agricultural Society hopes to increase the amount of funds available under its grant program.
To make a tax-deductible contribution to support our local farmers, donations can be sent to Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society, P.O. Box 73, West Tisbury, MA 02575. Please include the words “Farmer Grant Program Donation” with your contribution.
The society will begin accepting applications for next year’s grant program after Jan. 1. The application deadline is Feb. 28, 2017. For more details: marthasvineyardagriculturalsociety.org.
