On May 6, the Martha’s Vineyard All Island Junior High Band, consisting of seventh and eighth grade students from across the Island, traveled to Western Massachusetts to perform at the Great East Music festival. According to a press release, the students received a gold medal for their performance. The students performed three pieces for the judges: “Cheyenne,” a Western tribute; “Highlights from ‘West Side Story’”; and “Aggressivo.” The judges were extremely impressed with the quality of sound the students created, their musicianship, and the excitement they brought to their performance. The band is under the direction of Ruth Scudere-Chapman and Julie Schilling.
