Mass Audubon’s annual “Picture This: Your Great Outdoors” photo contest is underway, with hundreds of participants expected to submit images of the Bay State’s natural beauty and wildlife diversity before the competition ends Sept. 30. According to a press release, each year, “Picture This: Your Great Outdoors” attracts shutterbugs of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds, who are encouraged to fan out across the state (and Mass Audubon’s Wildwood Camp in Rindge, N.H.) to take their best shots of birds and other animals, friends and family members enjoying the outdoors, and more.

For the 2016 contest, photographers will be able to submit up to 10 entries, double the number allowed previously. Categories include People in Nature, Birds, Mammals, and Other Animals, as well as a single category for Landscapes, Plants, and Fungi. The age groupings are again 18-and-Over and Under-18.

All submissions, regardless of original format, must be submitted online. A grand prize winner will be awarded a $250 gift card, to be redeemed at a Mass Audubon shop or wildlife sanctuary. The grand prize photograph will also be featured in Mass Audubon’s member newsletter.

Nine winners will get $100 gift cards to redeem at a Mass Audubon shop or sanctuary. At least six honorable mentions will win $50 gift cards to redeem at a shop or sanctuary, and additional honorable mentions may be awarded at the discretion of the judges.
