To the Editor:
In recent years, the town of Edgartown has explored the potential of generating electricity from tides off the shore of Martha’s Vineyard. The town holds the development rights for Muskeget Channel, and has worked with consulting firms to study the feasibility of siting underwater turbines in the area.
Because tidal energy is a relatively new and unfamiliar technology to most, little is known about how the general public feels about it. Researchers at the University of Rhode Island are recruiting Vineyard residents for a study of public viewpoints on tidal energy. Volunteers will attend one 90-minute focus group discussion on Tuesday, June 28, or Thursday, June 30, and will be compensated $50 for their participation.
If you are interested in participating, please call me, Dr. David Bidwell, at 401-874-5708, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. You will be asked to provide some basic information, and will be added to a list of potential volunteers. This is a small study, and not all who express interest will be invited to participate.
