Police, fire make net gains for Vineyard House

To the Editor:

All of us at Vineyard House wish to thank the organizers of the Guns and Hoses Hockey Game for the very generous donation we received from funds raised at this marvelous event. Since 1997 Vineyard House has offered housing for Island residents in early recovery from substance abuse. The rents we receive from residents do not cover the programs we provide, and so we rely on donations from the community to cover the shortfall. We are grateful to the Island’s public safety professionals, who are on the front lines in dealing with effects of drug and alcohol addiction. And the Guns and Hoses Hockey Game was a tribute to our Island’s community spirit — expertly organized, generously supported, and a whole lot of fun. We were pleased that so many of our board members and residents were in the stands to cheer the participants on. And we were glad to stand in support of recently injured Edgartown deputy harbormaster Mike Hathaway, whose need for assistance was also recognized at this event.
