MVRHS sophomore Sophie Nevin recently won a national silver medal at the 2019 Scholastic Art Awards for her photograph “Two-Headed Monster.”
The national award ceremony will take place at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June, according to a press release, and the regional, statewide ceremony took place at Tufts University last weekend.
Sophie joins the ranks of national Scholastic Art and Writing medalists like artists Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana, and Kay WalkingStick; writers Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, and Joyce Carol Oates; and filmmakers Lena Dunham and Ken Burns.
Her photo is currently on exhibit at MVRHS as well as in a gallery at Tufts University for the next few weeks.
The release states that from nearly 340,000 entries, Sophie is one of only 10 Massachusetts photographers to win a national medal this year.
