American Legion to hold veterans benefits town hall


The American Legion Post 257 in Vineyard Haven will host a town hall meeting to discuss veterans benefits.

Representatives from the Providence VA Medical Center, Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), the Cape Cod Vet Center, and Dukes County Veterans services officer Jo Ann Murphy will be fielding questions, discussing veterans benefits, and VBA disability claim.

The Providence VA Medical Center provides primary care, mental health services and telehealth for enrolled Veterans on Martha’s Vineyard through a monthly veterans clinic at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. The clinic is part of the Providence VA Medical Center system, which provides healthcare for roughly 36,000 Veterans in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts, including primary care, mental health services, surgery and more than 30 specialty clinics, according to a press release about the town hall.

“Veterans, patients, families and community partners are all invited to attend the town hall meeting, get an update on Veterans health care and benefits, and ask questions,” Dr. Susan MacKenzie, director of the Providence VA Medical Center, said in the release.

The town hall is Tuesday, April 16, At the American Legion in Vineyard Haven from 4 to 5:30 pm. Veterans can also meet with a veterans benefits representative at 1 pm to discuss benefits. At 4 pm a VA health care representative will be on site to take I.D. card photos.
