Oak Bluffs Harbor Fest greets the summer season

One true sign that summer has officially kicked off each year is the Oak Bluffs Harbor Festival. Tents lined the harbor and music filled the air as festival goers strolled through the booths, which ranged from the classics like the Black Dog and Coop de Ville to interactive festivities for kids like the Pirates of the Cape and Z Face & Body Paint.

The Ol’ Tucker band, with Phil DaRosa, Brad Tucker, Mike Benjamin, Scott Shetler, Steve Tully, and Robbie Soltz, jammed on Nancy’s porch. Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish’s performance started up, but was cut short by the dramatic summer storm that hit in the afternoon, which included lightning and hail. Island photographer Michael Johnson, who had a booth set up during the festival selling his photographs, told The Times all anyone could do was huddle together under the tents and wait out the storm. Soon after, the skies cleared and the festivities resumed.
