The Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs hosts the Rev. Liz Walker, senior pastor of Roxbury Presbyterian Church in Boston, as she returns as visiting preacher this Sunday, July 14, at 10 am. Walker is an ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal tradition, and a 2005 graduate of Harvard Divinity School.
A veteran television journalist, Pastor Walker broke barriers by becoming the first African American weeknight news anchor in Boston. According to a press release, she held that position for 21 years. As a journalist, she traveled around the globe and earned many awards, including two Emmys and an Edward R. Murrow Award. She has worked with the U.N. on behalf of people from as far as Sudan to local towns in Massachusetts. Walker has been ministering to her Roxbury congregation for eight years, since 2011. Her sermons can be heard on Boston WROL 950 AM radio at 8:15 am, Monday through Friday.
All are invited to hear Walker’s sermon at Union Chapel’s 10 am Sunday service, and enjoy the organ prelude/quartet beginning at 9:40 am.
