At a special morning meeting Friday, Chilmark selectmen voted 2-0 to offer Assistant Fire Chief Jeremy Bradshaw a contract to step up to fire chief. Bradshaw wasn’t present, nor was selectman Bill Rossi. Lt. Gary Robinson represented the fire department at the meeting.

Selectman Jim Malkin said he was “very impressed” with Bradshaw’s support in the community. With his years of service, with his comprehension of the fire department’s strategic plan, and with the impression he left on labor consultant Jack Collins, Malkin said.

Chairman Warren Doty said a three-year contract will be put forth with provisions for professional development.

The board intends to meet soon with Bradshaw in executive session to go over the contract.

When a request for public comment was made, Beach Department staffer June Manning said, “It’s a wise choice.”
