To the Editor:
I can’t help wondering just what the Democrats are trying to cover up by insisting on hiding behind the smokescreen of the allegation that Russia is the only foreign power meddling in the U.S. electoral process. They really shot themselves in the foot with this!
It happens to be the truth that everybody is meddling in everybody else’s electoral process.
The U.S., as the most powerful economy in today’s world and the one able to slap sanctions at whim on whomever it chooses, is naturally of vital interest to the rest of the world.
In its own interest, it has also taken an active hand in the political process of other countries from the start. That is, after all, what diplomatic missions have always been there for: Their job is to gather information about their host country to provide a better understanding of that country to the sovereign who sends them and, on the other hand, to influence the powers that be of the host country in the interest of their home country.
One may also wonder whether Boris Johnson, by his irrational policies and actions, is actually pursuing the interests of the land of his birth: by alienating what used to be Great Britain from Europe, he is delivering Britain to the tender mercies of Uncle Sam, on whose goodwill Britain will depend for keeping its economy afloat.
