An afternoon of American song at the West Tisbury library

David Behnke, baritone, and David Rhoderick, piano, will present a concert of American Art Songs at the West Tisbury library on Wednesday, August 28, at 4:30 pm. The program will feature compositions that span the 20th century, including works by Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, Samuel Barber, and Leonard Bernstein, as well as more contemporary composers such as Gene Scheer, John Musto, and others. Many of the songs are based on texts by some of America’s finest poets. The afternoon concert offers a broad sampling of America’s unique contribution to the tradition of classical art song in all forms, says a press release from the library, “from beautiful soaring melodies to the fun and frivolous.” Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.
