Architecture discussion at the Chilmark library

0

Visit the Chilmark library for “A House on a Hill as a Window into Architecture: Araldo Cossutta in Chilmark and Beyond,” with Francis Murdock Pitts, FAIA FACHA OAA, on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 5 pm.

Pitts will discuss the Araldo Cossutta compound of Chilmark. An extraordinary family compound built over a 30-year period on a hilltop off Middle Road offers lessons about the evolution of mid-century modern and contemporary architecture, and raises questions about the essence of the Vineyard, technology on the Island, and the relationship between an architect and a client.

Pitts is the founding partner of architecture+, a 40-person practice designing public projects, higher education buildings, and hospitals throughout the U.S. He speaks internationally about hospital design. According to a press release, he is the 2018 winner of the Center for Health Design’s Changemaker Award, and in a moment of weakness for the profession that he loves, served as national vice president for the American Institute of Architects.

Also coming up at the library is the Poetry Book Club, on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 3 pm. Call the library for more information or to reserve this month’s book at 508-645-3360. Everyone is welcome.
