The Vineyard harriers traveled to Barnstable High School on Tuesday afternoon and split with the Red Raiders on a 2.6-mile course. The boys won, 25-32, and clinched the Cape and Island League Atlantic Division regular-season title with a 5-0 record. The girls had Amber Cuthbert back in the lineup, but missed Catherine Cherry and Kaitlyn Freeman in a close 27-31 loss.
Peter Burke won the boys race in 13:24. Barnstable’s Charlie Ewald (second, 13:39) and Connor Brewster (third, 13:40), along with Vineyarders Isaac Richards (fourth, 13:40) and Borja Tolay (fifth, 13:43), came to the line in a cluster. Ethan Weiner (13:55) took sixth for the Red Raiders, with Vito Aiello (seventh, 14:14) and Kieran Karabees (eighth, 14:14) securing the final Vineyard points. Barnstable’s Sean Cole (14:15) was ninth, and Vineyarder Nate Porterfield ran 10th (14:21).
In what Vineyard Coach Joe Schroeder called a “gritty performance,” the Vineyard girls swept the two, three, and four spots, and had four runners in the top 10.
Lily DeDecko won the race for the Red Raiders with a time of 15:54, with MV’s Wren Christy fast on her heels in second at 15:57. Eloise Christy (16:22) ran third; Yayla DeChiara (16:44), fourth; Margaret Sykes (18:41), 10th; Amber Cuthbert (19:00), 12th; Ashley Biggs (19:24), 14th; and Sara Creato (21:02), 16th.
