The Edgartown Board of Trade is holding the third annual Bass in the Grass Fundraiser in honor of the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass & Bluefish Derby, according to the Bass in the Grass website. The auction, which started on Sept. 22, ends on Oct. 18 at 11:59 pm.
A variety of paintings on wood planks carved in the shape of bass are being auctioned. The initiative will help raise money for local artists, the EBT, and the Derby Scholarship Fund, a fund that gives to qualified Vineyard students annually through the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass & Bluefish Derby Inc.
This year, for the Derby’s 75th anniversary event, the Derby Committee decided to suspend striped bass as an eligible species to protect the health of striped bass stocks, following advice from fishery scientists. That means that the Bass In the Grass are now the only Bass to be had during the 2020 Derby, so don’t miss your chance to take one of these elusive fish home.
