To the Editor:
This letter was sent to the West Tisbury select board.
I, Cynthia Riggs, join the large number of townspeople who believe the West Tisbury select board should pass a regulation that requires COVID vaccinations for all town employees, and for employees of any organization in our town that accepts taxpayers’ money.
According to the New York Times, local and state governments can enforce a vaccination because of a legal precedent set by the 1905 Supreme Court ruling in Jacobson v. Massachusetts, which let states require their residents get smallpox vaccinations.
Please consider the well-being of all of our townspeople at the minimal inconvenience of those few refusing to get vaccinated.
Cynthia Riggs
