Call him the “Bunny Bandit” or the “Bad Bunny.” Either way, Edgartown Animal Control officers are reporting that they apprehended a brown mini lop rabbit Monday that was attempting to break into the Edgartown Stop & Shop Pharmacy, but not before eluding officers for a brief taste of freedom.
The call came in for a loose rabbit in the Dippin Donuts parking lot on Monday evening. After an extended and unsuccessful foot chase through the pharmacy parking lot — that included a Havahart trap and net — the pet somehow got into an apartment, and finally to a rooftop deck over the grocery store pharmacy. There, animal control officer Kaitlyn Dore said she was able to finally apprehend the bunny after about 15 minutes.
In an effort to find the owner, Dore posted a comical post on Instagram, announcing that the rabbit was charged with attempted theft of produce and resisting arrest, and that anyone with any information on its “associates” should call her department at 508-939-1782.
Since the post went live Tuesday morning, the department has received a flurry of reactions, such as comments like the “Bunny Bandit” and “Bad Bunny.”
“We are getting quite the chuckle,” Dore shared with The Times.
She’s hoping that the humor will get back to the owner, who can come claim the bunny.
