Trick or treat seems like one of those tumbleweed things that has to outdo itself every year and this is a good time to simply Stop. Do something small and different at home. I agree if its too much for kids to be in school 100% then kids do not need to be loading up on sugar in less than safe circumstances. Definitely think the Food Pantry is good alternative. The 20 and 30 somethings who can't manage to do what is needed to limit Covid spreading are the same ones started on getting something (free candy) for nothing couple decades ago.

Sarah, I haven’t read the comments but I believe that you are doing the right thing. I am sure that people are disappointed but this is a special time where we must all consider each other and the health of each person.

If everyone just trick or treated in their own neighborhood instead of mass grouping in a few neighborhoods then it's totally do-able. That's how we did it growing up on cape.

I think it’s the appropriate thing to do during the Pandemic. Even the kids will understand.

What a bunch of crap

So sorry to see some people’s reactions to this. I am one of those residents of William Street. I have thrown myself into Halloween every year....full out decorations, handed out 1600 pieces of candy last year, have a party where my guests come dressed in characters from the theme I’ve chosen (Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, etc). I am a senior, in the vulnerable age bracket for the virus. Most of us are seniors. I cannot imagine handing out candy to hundreds of children in the middle of a pandemic with the possibility of being exposed myself, or exposing others if I am asymptomatic. Especially with the hundreds of people who come through our neighborhood. I, like many of my neighbors, are donating the money we would have spent on Halloween candy, to the Island Food Pantry. That’s about $400-500 from me, alone. I know many in the community are disappointed, but each of us are doing the best we can to navigate this pandemic. Please try to be understanding. You may not agree, and that is your right, but please respect our doing what we feel is best for our health. We have happily embraced this wonderful holiday over the years, welcomed your children, marveled at their costumes, and embraced with enthusiasm this wonderful event.

As for fares look at the proposed automobile rates. As it is between Hyannis and Nantucket it's roughly 550 to 575 round trip for a family of 4 with the new increase likely up to 650!

Virus is spreading and we’re probably going back into lock down so they’ll need a bail soon

Suddenly everyone is a marine architect and an accountant. There is a simple solution if you don't like paying for the privilege to live here.

Stop spending so much money on new buildings and new boats and you won't need a bailout! Seriously, Island Home, renovating all the boats, new offices in Falmouth, new OB terminal, new WH Terminal, new WH slips. STOP, to MV it's 45 minutes, and the Islander served us fine for over 50 years!

It isn't the Vineyard customers that will feel the economic pain as much as the Hyannis to Nantucket customers. 7% higher rate both routes means every cost you have for goods and services will also rise by 10%.

The port towns get a pass on making up the deficit this year — but maybe not NEXT year, so .... take the bailout while you can get it. And plz spend it to the benefit of the islands and islanders.
