Arnold McCuller at the Old Whaling Church
Listen to the vocals of singer/record producer Arnold McCuller this Friday, July 27, in a concert sponsored by Hardcourt Productions at Edgartown’s Old Whaling Church.
Best known for his back-up work with artists such as Beck, Phil Collins, and Todd Rundgren, Mr. McCuller has toured with James Taylor for more than 30 years, done shows for President Obama, and has recently performed duets with Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville.
The concert will begin at 8 pm with an opening act by San Francisco vocalist Lynn Asher. Mr. McCuller will perform a range of musical genres, from R&B to pop, and will be joined on stage by Jon Gilutin and drummer Rick Marotta, among other surprise guests. Della Hardman Day
This weekend marks the eighth annual Della Hardman Day celebration, sponsored by the Town of Oak Bluffs.
On Saturday, July 28, gather at Ocean Park at 4 pm for the Savor the Moment! event, at which Selectman Walter Vail will open with greetings from the Town, Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School winning student essayists will receive their awards and read their work, and poet/author Nikki Giovanni will be featured, followed by a cake reception.
On Sunday, July 29, the Spirituals Choir, led by Jim Thomas, will perform at the East Chop Lighthouse at 5 pm, followed by a performance by dancer Christina Montoya. There will be tours of the lighthouse, and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and a picnic.

Fundraiser for Island Autism Group

Fun with sand
To the Island’s finest sand sculptors and castle builders: Hit the beach next week and show your talents at the sixth annual Sand Sculpture Contest on Wednesday, August 1, along the shore of Right Fork, South Beach in Edgartown.
There are some rules: Tools may be used during the building process, but cannot be included in the final product. Decorations are allowed, but non-biodegradable items must be removed at the end of the contest.
Registration begins at 9:30 am on the day of the contest. Construction is from 10 am until the judging begins at 2. Fun with ITW Children’s Theatre
On Friday, July 27 the Island Theatre Workshop will host its annual Staff Variety Show at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury, near Alley’s General Store, at 8 pm.
