Rounding out this year’s middle school basketball season, the Edgartown School’s girls basketball team were awarded the Island championship crown.
The girls capped off an undefeated season with a 43-28 victory over West Tisbury School on Feb. 6 at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School’s Francis (“Sancy”) Pachico Gymnasium to win the cross-Island competition.
Although the game began with a slow first half, with the score tied at 12 points, both teams heated up for the rest of the game.
Among the Edgartown girls, Alicia Guimaraes led the scorers with 16 points to go along a host of rebounds.
Clara Rabeni and Isabela Burns both chipped in eight points each for the Eagles.
On the West Tisbury side, Iyla Story led the Hawks’ scoring with 13 points.
