Clothes to Go (CTG), a clothing ministry of the United Methodist Church of Martha’s Vineyard, is hosting its third annual fashion show on June 27, from 7 to 8 pm. This year’s fashion show celebrates a community that comes together to meet a need on the Island (8.5 percent live below the federal poverty line) and a community of joy that has grown among shoppers. Featured models will be friends, family, and volunteers of CTG, who will walk the runway in four themed categories, each created to showcase the vast diversity of donated clothing.
Founder and program coordinator Wey Fiore says, “The clothes truly speak for themselves. They represent closets from all across the Vineyard and all walks of life. Community is at the forefront of Clothes to Go. There’s something special that happens here. It’s more than just the clothing. It’s joy and connection. People get excited when they find something they love, and they will tell the person next to them, ‘Hey, look at this!’ even if they don’t know them.”
Clothes to Go accepts donations Mondays 3 to 6 pm, and Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10 am to noon. They accept “all clean, wearable clothing except for undergarments (unless new in the package).” The fashion show is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Martha’s Vineyard, it will be held at Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs.
