The 91-year-old woman who crashed her car on the Steamship Authority ferry in Vineyard Haven last week died as a result of the incident, the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office confirmed Wednesday.

The DA’s Office Director of Community Programs, Danielle Whitney, told The Times that no charges have been filed as a result of the incident. Whitney didn’t say when or where the woman died.

Whitney, and Oak Bluffs Police, referred The Times to Massachusetts State Police, who are handling the case and confirmed on Wednesday that investigations are still ongoing.

The crash occurred before 10 am on July 8 as the Island Home was boarding vehicles for a 9:30 a.m. departure from Vineyard Haven. The driver, who experienced a medical emergency, was extricated by Tisbury firefighters and transported to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital before being flown to a Boston hospital.

Tisbury Police Lt. Bill Brigham previously told The Times that it seemed the driver entered the boat at high speed and “careened” into a wall on the vessel.

The incident caused several ferry cancellations and delays throughout the day.
