Wake up the family during the holiday season with the smell of these chocolate gingerbread waffles. A blend of nutmeg, cinnamon, and allspice makes these waffles an aromatic addition to the season.
Not only are they a great breakfast food, but waffles were a huge food trend in 2015. Restaurants showcased waffles on brunch and dinner menus. Ben DeForest served fried chicken, watermelon, buttermilk waffles, and ham jam on his menu at the Red Cat Kitchen this season.
Savory waffles are also a big hit: Just make your regular buttermilk waffles and get creative with the add-ins. Some ideas include grated cheese, scallions, chopped peppers, and even bacon. Today, we’re sticking with these chocolate gingerbread waffles: Slightly sweet and perfectly spiced, they’re sure to become a family favorite.

1 Tbsp vanilla extract
1 large egg
