Rene DaSilva of Vineyard Haven Sunday morning repeated as champ of the 16th annual Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library 5K Run and Walk to the Chop. Under beautiful blue skies, with temps in the high 60′s, Mr. DaSilva ran from the library to West Chop and back in 17:57, 20 seconds ahead of race runner-up Jose Alves of Oak Bluffs.

Katie Brown, also of Vineyard Haven, was the women’s winner, placing ninth overall in 24:06. Twelve year-old Catherine Cherry of Charlton was the women’s runner-up, clocking in six seconds later in 10th place.

Topping the walkers was Marston Clough, 70 of Vineyard Haven, who came to the line by a nose in front of seasonal resident Marcy Glenn of Colorado.

Prior to the main event, dozens of children took part in a half-mile fun run. Alexa Pil, 10, of Vineyard Haven was the winner. For good measure, she was 15th in the 5K with a time of 26:11. Twins Aiden and Liam Conley of Oak Bluffs were second and third.
