The definition of the word “retreat” is a period of group withdrawal for prayer, meditation, study, or instruction under a director. While the Island hosts a variety of retreats, they mostly take place during the busiest of the seasons, summer. That’s why the Vineyard Square Hotel and Sea Spa Salon in Edgartown came together to host a retreat where guided meditations and outdoor hikes would be surrounded by peace and quiet. Kicking off on March 31, and through April 3, guests have the option to be a part of either the four day or two day retreat, which focuses on activities to encourage rejuvenation of the mind, body, and soul. Each day will start with a morning meditation, followed by a walk to an array of local landmarks, such as the Edgartown Lighthouse and South Beach at Katama.
“Our hope with this retreat is to allow guests to experience the Vineyard during the off season in a way that they wouldn’t normally,” Wesley Doyle, General Manager of Vineyard Square Hotel & Suites said. “Many people come here during the busy season, and never actually have the chance to relax and take time for themselves.”
The retreat will be led by Rebecca Briggs, a Martha’s Vineyard resident and certified yoga instructor, nutritionist, and lead massage therapist at Sea Spa Salon, who has over 25 years of experience of living a healthy lifestyle. One-on-one consultations with Rebecca are included in the retreat, allowing participants personalized attention in the comfort of a relaxed environment.
The full detoxing experience, which includes the four-day retreat, is available with luxury one-bedroom or two-bedroom accommodations. Prices range from $1,550 to $2,150. The wellness retreat is also offered as a two-day retreat, which is available with the same accommodation options. Prices range from $850 to $1,200.
