The Chilmark Community Center was jammed Saturday night as Islanders of all stripes said farewell to Tom Osmers. An accomplished fisherman, a dedicated advocate for fisheries resources, a radio personality (WVVY 93.7 FM), and just a plain old good guy, Tom was known far and wide. He was the shellfish warden in West Tisbury for many years, but his interest stretched farther afield, and he regularly attended fisheries meetings off-Island. He was quick with a smile and a warm hello for everyone — except pompous, all-knowing bureaucrats.
