The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) celebrates its annual Evening of the Arts this Wednesday, May 19. The end-of-the-year culmination features the art of students, from ceramics and paintings, to live performances. Artwork is showcased through the halls of the art department wing, and students perform stand-up comedy, monologues, choreographed dance pieces, musical acts, and student-made films in the halls and in the Performing Arts Center (PAC). Performances include an original dance piece choreographed and performed by Tessa Permar, and an improvisational hip-hop dance by Grant Meacham.

“It’s a celebration of all forms of art: visual art, drawings, paintings, graphics,” said Janice Frame, drawing and painting teacher. “All the senior artwork will be showcased in the PAC lobby and also some down the halls of the art wing.”

The performances start at 6 pm in the PAC, but attendees are invited to arrive early to see the artwork before.

“I’m really excited about my kids’ work. We’ve done some really nice work this year,” Ms. Frame said. “Special things to look forward to will be the White Paintings, the Surrealist Paintings, still-lifes by the freshmen in acrylic painting. The senior work is going to be stunning.”

The winner of the Family Planning Art Show Contest will also be announced that night. Says Ms. Frame, “It’s almost like a festival.”
