The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce will present JB and Heidi Blau, owners of Sharky’s Cantina in Oak Bluffs and Edgartown, the “Build a Better Mousetrap Award,” at Cape Cod SCORE’s 17th annual awards breakfast, on May 20, at Old Yarmouth Inn in Yarmouth.
Owners JB and Heidi Blau attribute their success to their commitment to the community and their determination to remain open seven days a week at both locations “every week of the year,” a chamber press release reports. “Fair pricing, fresh, delicious drinks and food, a year-round staff that cares, community outreach, and a lively atmosphere makes them a top choice for Islanders and tourists alike. Donating to local charities and organizations, sponsoring large scale events, and making the local business their top priority has cemented their core clientele and provided them with a massive base of extremely loyal guests.”
The Better Mousetrap goes annually to small businesses that have survived the critical first five years of operation and appear to be headed for long-term success. Seventeen businesses nominated by local chambers will receive the award.
