There has been some rearranging at the Simon Gallery in Vineyard Haven, and in addition to Peter Simon’s photographs, the result is more room for the dramatic display of Ronni Simon’s metallic wire and beaded wall sculptures, her wearable art jewelry, and a new section for her longtime passion, yarns for knitting.
“The reason I did this is because I want to get Islanders to express their creativity with yarn,” she says. “Using incredible yarn with the simplest stitch results in something beautiful.”
Ms. Simon explains she first started creating knitted and crocheted pieces, and then evolved to using crocheted metallic wire to make her embellished jewelry and most recently her wall sculptures that integrate crocheting and various beads and ornamentation.
The gallery stocks bamboo, silk, exotic ribbon, and baby llama yars, among others like Poof Yarn, a microfiber and nylon warn distinctive for its softness. Ms. Simon, who will be offering classes, is looking for experienced knitters to teach small classes at the gallery. Contact her at 508-325-2242.
