Dragonfly Fine Arts Gallery at 91 Dukes County avenue in Oak Bluffs opens its doors this week, celebrating with a full roster of 23 artists and new work.
In their second season as owners, Susan Davy and Don McKillop have made changes to the popular gallery, which they’ll reveal at a season-opening reception on Saturday, May 29, 4 to 7 pm at the gallery in the Arts District.
Dragonfly, like several galleries in the Arts District, has expanded hours this season, open daily from 11 am to 6 pm.
The physical space has a new appearance, layout and lighted window displays. The interior has been redesigned to offer several more intimate viewing areas. Dragonfly retained Evangeline & Co., a landscape design firm, to redesign the gallery’s exterior with an eye to pairing its landscape with the colors and textures of the work inside the gallery
Dragonfly has a new exhibition style and content as well. Six new artists offer a broad selection of work in various media. The gallery will exhibit its artists’ work all season rather than preparing different shows in two-week cycles through the season. A continuously running slide show will orient visitors to the work on display.
“We’ll be featuring all new work from our 23 artists to allow our clients, visitors, and friends to see the work of each artist, no matter when they come to the Island, and it will give our artists much broader exposure,” Mr. McKillop says, adding, “We’ll rotate the work frequently so each time visitors come in, the space will be different. Clients and artists have told us they like this approach,” he said.
Also changed is Dragonfly’s schedule of announcements. They will do only one mailing at the beginning of the season. All other announcements of exhibits will be done through local and regional advertising and through the gallery’s e-newsletter.
