The Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School graduated its tenth high school class Saturday, in a ceremony held under a tent on the school grounds in West Tisbury.

Despite a rainstorm earlier in the day, the sun shone almost as brightly as the smiles on the nine students’ faces, when the moment came for them to take their seats of honor in the front row.

The class of eight girls and one boy included Krista Brown, Ava Castro, Joshua Crowther, Iris Grace, Rose Maidoff, Chelsea Phaneuf, Oona Post, Marguerite Smith, and Brianna Sosa.

Art teacher Cara Studds gave the commencement address. School director Bob Moore and Laura Hall, president of the trustees, also addressed the students.

The graduating class in turn shared with the audience of about 200 their reflections on their school years.

As Iris Grace concluded, “From here, we go into the rest of our lives. Although I don’t know exactly what doors will open, I know this: I won’t go in empty-handed.”
