Feeling a little wary of crowds after a great, but busy, Fourth of July weekend? Why not settle back and relax with some shopping in the tranquil setting of Nevin Square, which is tucked away in the heart of Edgartown, just off of Winter Street.
Vineyard Vines, by far an Island staple as they have been here since 1998, has made some great changes this year with their two stores. Vineyard Vines Kids has been moved back into the main store to make way for Vineyard Vines Women, which now offers an expanded line of women’s favorites. Their window tag line “No Shorts? No Flops? No Problem! Everything you need to start your summer is inside” still applies for the whole family, so stop in and start shopping.
New this season is Almore Cosmetics. The premise of this wonderful, welcoming store is the large array of products made from the Dead Sea in Israel. One of the lines is the award-winning Premier by Dead Sea Products. Premier’s full line of facial cosmetics, made from the healing properties of the Dead Sea, is designed for all skin types. Almore also has a colorful array of mineral makeup to ensure you look your best. I was lucky enough to sample the nail kit’s three-step buffer pad with Roni Ashkenazi, who in just 30 seconds took my dull fingernail to a high polished natural shine that will last for two weeks. Shani Golan introduced me to the Premier’s Dead Sea Aromatic Mineral Body Treatment that utilizes sea salt crystals to exfoliate your skin, followed by Avani’s Ultra Rich Body Butter. Between the two wonderful products my hands have never been softer.
The next store is Carvel, which is an enticing home goods store offering platters, glasses, quilts, ceramics, and jewelry, just to name a few items. And from July 21 to the 26th, the store will feature a Pop Up Shop of Original Women, a social enterprise dedicated to celebrating women artisans from around the world.
After Carvel is Made Here on the Vineyard, which is filled with a variety of items handmade on island. There is so much to please the eyes: jewelry, pottery, pictures, and woodwork. Some unique pieces that would make fabulous gifts are the wooden golf ball display or the cloth kitchen aprons by local Julie Verost.
Outrageous Home & Clothing is back from a stint in Vineyard Haven. They have expanded their lines to add even more color and flair. All of their clothing, jewelry, and home furnishings are enough to make you swoon, so come prepared to carry out a lot of unique finds. I am sure one of the items in your bag will be from their new clothing line Desiqual. Desiqual, whose motto is “it’s not the same,” is designed in Spain and is new this year to the U.S.
Skirtin’ Around describes themselves as offering “women’s clothing that’s fun and flirty, with a twist.” Their clothes are made from 100 percent silk, 100 percent cotton, or a cotton/spandex blend, and all are sure to put you on the best-dressed list.
Aanya’s Clothing & Accessories has bright, flowing, comfortable women’s clothing, sandals, and jewelry. Their colorful tops can be dressed up or become casual with a pair of their jeans, all while making you feel beautiful.
Flanking the entrance to Nevin Square is the always popular Blue Fish, Bramhall & Dunn, Optional Art Fine Jewelry, and Perceptions.
So put on your walking shoes and take a stroll through the serene Nevin Square.
