In addition to the many farm stands we have on the Island, you can find farmers’ markets four days a week, hosted by three different organizations.
The newest to join the summer lineup is the Edgartown School’s Farmers’ Market, sponsored by the school’s PTO. Your kids can play on the school’s playground while you shop for locally grown vegetables and flowers, baked goods, photography, art, jewelry, and more, every Friday through August from 9 am to 12 noon. For more information, contact Lucia Hayman at 508-733-9834 or email luciachayman@gmail.com.
On Saturdays and Wednesdays is the renowned West Tisbury Farmers’ Market, which just added seafood to its list of available Island goods. Get lobsters from Wes Brighton (Vineyard Wild-Caught), and oysters from Roxanne Ackerman (Split Rock Oysters). Last week, lobsters were priced at $7.50/lb for 1 to 1 1/4 pounders; $8.50/lb. for 1 1/4 to 2 pounders; and $9.50/lb for 2 to 3 pounders. The market is open from 9 am to 12 noon, at the Grange Hall. In its 36th year, the Wednesday markets are open through August 25, and Saturdays through October 9. For more information, visit westtisburyfarmersmarket.com.
Lastly is the ever-growing Down-Island Farmers’ Market that features live music, book signings, and other special events along with a host of vendors Tuesdays at the Tisbury Wharf. Coming up this Tuesday, July 20, hear live music by Tristan Israel and Paul Thurlow from 11:30 to 1 pm, and get Vineyard Stories books “Morning Glory Farm” and “Schooner” signed by author and photographer Tom Dunlop and Alison Shaw, respectively.
Open weekly from 9 am to 1 pm through September, food vendors include the ArtCliff Diner truck, Aquinnah’s Orange Peel Bakery, and Tea Lane Caterers.
