Sketchy idea

Artist Diane Nicholls, an expert in recording the natural landscape, will be at Polly Hill Arboretum today, Thursday, July 22, from 1 to 4 pm, teaching drawing techniques that include developing a personal illustrator’s shorthand, and methods for keeping a daily sketch book. This is the last class scheduled this month. The class is $36 for non-members. If you act quickly you may be able to join in. Call Karin Stanley. 508-693-9426

Holladay guide

Painter John Holladay will be at Owen Park, Vineyard Haven 
on Tuesday, July 27, conducting a Martha’s Vineyard Workshops
& Louisa Gould Gallery
painting class. The
 workshop is $125.

Mr. Holladay will guide beginners and experienced painters through the process of plein air painting from 9 to 1 pm, conduct a demonstration and assist students with their paintings. Students must bring their own materals. Any medium is acceptable.

Mr. Holladay is a full time art teacher, who recently won
a National Scholastic Award for teaching excellence, as well as a long-time successful illustrator. His work can be seen at the Artisans Festivals at The Grange Hall in West Tisbury and at Louisa Gould Gallery in West Tisbury.
