The 12-year-old Vineyard Little League all star travel team visited Cooperstown, N.Y., last weekend, taking in the sights at the Baseball Hall of Fame and playing the national pastime on several of the manicured Little League fields, including one modeled on Fenway Park, complete with a green monster in left field. Four of the Vineyarders were awarded green shirts for hitting balls over the mini-monster: Silas Berlin, Tucker McNeely, Isaac Higgins and Emily Turney. Emily was the only girl in any of the games in which the Vineyard played.
The Islanders were 0 for 7 but made a good showing, especially in an extra-inning game with a team from Wisconsin.
This weekend the team of 12-year-old youngsters is entered in a tournament at Bourne, scheduled to play Medfield, Braintree, and the host team.
