Tony terrific
Tony Grillo of Vineyard Haven and Farm Neck G.C. has qualified for the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship tournament with a five under par round at Potowomut G.C., Warwick, R.I. The Amateur Champion tourney will begin August 23 at the municipal links course on Puget Sound in Washington state.
Tony, an ’08 graduate of MV Regional High School, is captain of the Harvard golf team and an Ivy League all-star. At Potowomut, Tony was one over par after the morning round but caught fire in the afternoon to finish the day 5 under.

Last week The Times reported that Elmer Silva had defeated Gary BenDavid in the Farm Neck Golf Club Men’s Championship Flight, one up, and that Helen Green had defeated Betsy Dripps in the Women’s Championship Flight, 4 and 3.
Unreported were the winners of other flights. In Men’s Flight A, Richard Combra defeated Wally Gold 3 and 2. In Flight B, Alan Schweikert defeated Steve Graham 2 up. Al Alexander defeated Steve Amaral 1 up in the Senior Division
In Women’s Flight A, Abbe Burt defeated Sue Morrison 2 and 1.
