Open Tennis Tourney
A record setting 120 players participated in seven events at the MV Open Tennis Tournament benefiting the MV Cancer Support Group. New to the tourney this year was a division featuring local pros as well as some from surrounding states. Open to pros and amateurs alike, it was four teams of pros that made it to the semifinals. Jamie Gresh, coach at Brown University, and Ben Lamanna, coach at Brandeis, took top honors. Runners up were Raj Mahara and Tyler Owens. Paul Hammond and Josh Rilla were third.
Main Draw Results were:
Men’s A Doubles: Michael Fedorouk and Julian Fialkow defeated Fain Hackney and Michael Halisky, 7-5, 6-3.
Men’s B Doubles: Rob Pierce and David Walker defeated Doug Cooper and Sandy Nadelstein, 6-3, 6-3.
In Women’s A Doubles: Sue Kimball and Liz Roberts defeated Suzie Bramhall and Nina Bramhall, 6-4, 6-4.
Women’s B Doubles: Lili Cooperrider and Barbara Leonard defeated Natalie Krauthamer and Anne Williamson 6-2, 6-1.
At Mixed A Doubles Sue Kimball and Arthur Stafford defeated Lucia Hayman and Darren Belisle, 7-6, 6-4.
Mixed B Doubles Tammy King and Phil Mercier defeated Gene Erez and Ardell Otten. 6-1, 7-5.
Tournament organizer and director Mike Johns and Mas Kimball thanked the many volunteers who made things go smoothly and helped to raise more than $8,000 for the MV Cancer Support Group.
