To the Editor:
August 6, 2010 was the 80th birthday of Beverly Brush, a resident of Windemere. Asked what she wanted to do, she said, a biplane ride around the Island.
So on Sunday, August 8, up we went. I would like to thank Classic Aviators LTD, our pilot Mike, and his assistant, for their patience, professionalism, laughter, and giving us the ride of a lifetime. I would also like to thank the anonymous Chappy donor who made this trip financially possible; Betsy Burmeister, activities director at Windemere for her assistance in facilitating this event, her flowers and cupcakes for the birthday girl; to Ken Chisholm, administrator of Windemere, for his presence and support, and to the spectators who took time out of their Sunday to cheer us on — Sharon Willoughby, Margaret Serpa, Kathy, Lucinda’s children, The Times photographer and reporter, Beverly’s friend from Katama.
Lastly, I would like to thank Beverly, who thinks she ruined my ride when in fact she gave me the opportunity to share with her the most memorable experience of my life.
