Rainy and Sue Shine
Rainy Goodale of Tisbury and Sue Jensen of Aquinnah and Cambridge recently returned from the FINA Masters World Championships held in Gothenberg, Sweden, July 30 – August 7. Rainy and Sue were among the some 6,000 competitors from around the globe vying for recognition as the best Master Swimmers in the world.
Sue, competing in the 50-54 age group placed 7th in the world in the 800 meter freestyle, 9th in the 100 meter freestyle, She narrowly missed finishing in the top 10 in the 400 meter Individual medley. She was 11th, only 2.3 seconds short of her goal. She was also 12th in the 200 meter individual medley.
Rainy, the reigning New England breast stroke champion in the women’s 40 to 44 age group, shattered her existing New England record in the 200 meter breast stroke by more than two seconds at 3:00.54 finishing fourth in the world . She also placed 5th in the 50 meter breast stroke and 5th in the 100 meter breast stroke where she set yet another New England record at 1:23.17.
Rainy also competed in the 50 meter freestye and the 50 meter butterfly.
Both Rainy and Sue were members of the New England Masters mixed 200 meter freestyle relay and the 200 meter individual medley team. Together they bought home six medals and two New England records . The MV Masters Swim team is extremely proud of these accomplished teammate athletes.
