To the Editor:
My name is Carol Whitley, and I live in Virginia. In August, I visited my daughter, Robin O’Donnell, in Vineyard Haven, and fell down the steps on the sidewalk by Mad Martha’s Ice Cream Shop, I am 82 years old and not as sure-footed as I used to be, I’m afraid. But I was very impressed with so many helpful people, I feel I must thank everyone who happened to be in the area that day. I got the names of a few — Chris, Heather, Jeff, Cindy, Dr. Casper, nurse Martha, and Elizabeth, to name just a few.
There were many whose names we’ll never know; one lady brought ice and paper towels to help my daughter, a young man held my hand and talked nicely to me.
Sometimes I feel like the world is not as caring as it once was, and then something like this happens and it restores my faith in humanity. To each and every one of you a heartfelt thank you.
