Musical sensations for two great causes

Over the course of the summer, Nectar’s has provided a breadth of entertainment for good causes, and will continue to do so this Friday, September 3. With the help of special guests Ben Taylor and John Forte, each an accomplished and acclaimed musician, the music venue hopes to raise money and attention to two Island-sponsored initiatives.

Martha’s Vineyard Helping Homeless Animals (MVHHA) is a cage-free, nonprofit, no-kill organization dedicated to rescuing animals and providing for their physical and emotional needs while securing a loving and permanent home. The organization works for animals on the Island in addition to animals in Tennessee, Georgia, and St. Croix.

Rockhouse Foundation is an organization based out of Jamaica, committed to rebuilding schools and providing an education and available resources for children of all ages.

Doors open at 9 pm for this evening of community and commitment with a live auction (a trip to Bermuda and Red Sox tickets included) and a concert that will not soon be forgotten.

Ben Taylor, though a frequent performer on the Vineyard, never ceases to please crowds with his soothing voice and exciting stage presence. The singer/songwriter will be joined Friday night by John Forté, a Brooklyn-born rapper and producer, whose impressive list of musical credits include contributions to “The Score,” the multi-platinum and Grammy-winning album by The Fugees. Mr. Taylor is known for the ease and accomplishment with which he blends musical genres, a gift that allows him to continually give innovative concerts, and one that will no doubt be heightened by the presence of Mr. Forté. In addition to Mr. Forte’s work with The Fugees, he released a debut solo album in 1998, produced by Wyclef Jean.

Tickets can be purchased from Nectar’s and Hurd Publishing or can be found online directly at ticketsmv.com. They are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. VIP tickets are also available and include front seating.
