David Densmore, a founder of the West Coast Fisher Poet movement, will speak at the Chilmark Library this coming Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Fisher Poets are a group of commercial fishermen who also write poems and stories about life at sea.

Having started writing poetry in the late 70s, he dubs his poetry “A love letter to the [commercial fishing] industry.” Mr. Densmore has been featured in numerous magazines and newspapers, in the documentary film “Fisherpoets,” which is currently at the library, and Good Morning America. The reading is free, and is sponsored by a grant from the Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard to Island public schools. For more information, call 508-645-3360.
