Nancy Jean (Campbell) Fitzgerald, 72, of East Hartford, Conn., died on September 13, 2010. She was born in Melrose, the daughter of Dorothy Bradford Townsend and John Earl Campbell, both now deceased.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert G. Fitzgerald, and six loving children: R. Bryan Fitzgerald and his wife, Tammy; Lisa J. deWolfe and her husband, Pete deWolfe; Peter S. Fitzgerald and his wife, Cheray; Timothy J. Fitzgerald and his wife, Donna; Laurie A. Fitzgerald; and Peter Gilbert and his wife, Karen.

Nancy dearly loved and was close to her grandchildren, following their progress as they grew. They are Alexandra and Chloë Fitzgerald; Melissa, Justin, Julie and Kelly deWolfe; Marissa, Sean and Luke Fitzgerald; Grace Fitzgerald; and Alison Gilbert. She is also survived by her brother Alan T. Campbell, his wife, Cornelia, of Vineyard Haven and nieces Joanne C. Cannisstrarro, Katie C. Milo, and nephew Peter Campbell of Vineyard Haven. She enjoyed many vacations with her family on Martha’s Vineyard.

Nancy was dedicated to her 28-year career at the East Hartford Branch YMCA. She enjoyed working with children and families there and continued to be involved in the same areas when she retired. She was a member and past President of the East Hartford Exchange Club and past officer in the Connecticut District Exchange. She served on the ChildPlan and the Circle of Life Boards, having served as the first and only four term President of ChildPlan. She was Chair of the South Congregational Church of East Hartford Missions Board until her illness prohibited it. She also served on the East Hartford School Readiness Council and volunteered for the YMCA Board Development and Annual Support Committees. Her favorite annual events were the Holiday Parties at Veteran’s Terrace, Hockanum, and King Court.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, October 4, 2010 at South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes Street, East Hartford. Time for fellowship will follow at the Church. Interment will be in the Memorial Garden at the Church at the convenience of the family.
