Citrine, a unique shop on Main Street in Vineyard Haven, made a big move this spring from West Tisbury. They are now making another big move into the realm of teaching by hosting Beading Classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings.
Leslie Freeman is bringing owner Emma Kiley’s new venture, Beading Classes, to fruition. Ms. Freeman brings many years of beading experience as well as teaching to the table and is looking forward to helping others complete dreams or projects. On Mondays, she will teach the many types of beading, while Wednesdays she concentrates on how to work with metals, and Fridays will allow one the opportunity to return to work on projects started earlier in the week, or on a specific project. All of her classes are from 7 to 9 pm, are open to all levels of experience, and are either $20 a class, or $95 if you pre-pay for six classes. You may bring your own supplies or choose from the fabulous, large selection sold on site at Citrine.
Ms. Kiley, owner and operator of this fantastic store, began her dream back in college when she was taking classes and working at a bead store. While she had always enjoyed making jewelry, it took on a new meaning when the owner of the bead store took her on her first buying trip to Thailand. Once she finished school she headed back to the Island where she had been raised since she was 11. Ms. Kiley found an open storefront next to Eileen Blake’s Pies in West Tisbury and started Citrine as a bead/import venue.
Since she moved Citrine to Vineyard Haven in April, the store has seen much growth while still staying true to its original intent. She has now added an eclectic mix of clothing and shoes that have a young feel but look appropriate for all ages. Ms. Kiley also found a need for toddler clothing on-Island, so she expanded her children’s section up through 3T.
Trying to keep with her vision of hosting Island artists, as exhibited by the six she currently represents in the jewelry area, she also sells Island-made scarves, fingerless gloves, and leg warmers.
Her bead selection is enormous, though she is extremely excited for her new expected shipment of Java Glass Beads from Indonesia that will overflow her stock. Her current bead selection contains a wonderful array of Czech Republic and Java Glass beads. There is also a wide variety of other finds to finish off your jewelry-making list such as seven trays of fresh water pearls, Indonesian pendants, imported Thai silver, and a vast selection of semi-precious stones from China.
Keep in mind that Citrine not only has beads, jewelry and clothing, but they also still do jewelry repairs and custom work to ensure that any outfit you have is complete.
