Word from the Martha’s Vineyard Collegiate Baseball team is that the contest to name the new team has reached the final four: Sharks, Islanders, Ospreys, and Fighting Clams.
According to a press release, Club CEO Chris Carminucci said, “We received so many excellent suggestions from the Vineyard and elsewhere, we are excited to see that both the Island and the rest of the baseball world have taken an interest in the new team.”
The team would be a franchise within the Collegiate Wooden Bat League now being formed for play this summer at ball fields on the Cape and Island.
The club also announced the hiring of Jerry Murphy, a native of the Bronx and, since 2007, a resident of the Vineyard, as general manager. Previously, Murphy was a founder and CFO of New Hampshire Energy & Wood Pellets. Previously he was founder of B4nAfter, a business solutions software company. He was also a senior vice president at Stockholm-based Nordea Bank’s New York branch for 22 years.
