Oak Bluffs residents should expect to get third and fourth quarter tax and wastewater bills late this year.
Normally, the bills go out before the end of the calendar year. But, on Wednesday, town administrator Michael Dutton said the bills will not get into the mail until February, when the town sets its tax rate.
Mr. Dutton said the town collector would gladly accept estimated payments for the real estate tax and wastewater bills early. He anticipates the town may have to borrow money to meet its obligations, until the tax revenue comes in.
Oak Bluffs has struggled to keep up with its financial calendar since the death this past fall of town finance director and treasurer Paul Manzi. Mr. Manzi died of cancer in October at age 50.
“We’re trying to do as much as we can with very limited staff,” Mr. Dutton said.
