The Mansion House Inn in Vineyard Haven announces its Slumber Party January special to Island residents looking for an affordable local winter vacation.

Island residents can book one or more nights, including buffet breakfast and full use of the sauna and gym, yoga and Pilates classes for $26 per person, plus tax, through the evening of January 31.

Mansion House owners Susie and Sherm Goldstein concocted the vacation package last year to celebrate 25 years of business at the historic inn, which has been home to weary travelers since the late 1700s.

“It’s back, really, because of popular demand,” Ms. Goldstein said this past Monday. “Last year we booked about 90 rooms. Today is the first day. We had reservation calls waiting when the switchboard opened. People say they’ve been waiting for this.”

The offer is designed primarily to offer winter residents a break. There are no promotional tricks or tie-ins, just the chance to get away and experience the hotel at prices 90 to 95 percent less than high season rates.

“It’s an opportunity to support the Island community that has always supported us. Our lights are on and we’re open, so why not do this? It’s good for our employees and for Main Street generally,” she said, adding that residents can book as many nights as they’d like.

As Ms. Goldstein describes it, the Slumber Party is similar to opening a home to friends. “I have friends, people I’ve known for 40 years, who’ve never been inside a room here. I like seeing them here, having the chance to catch up, to have them see where I work, so to speak,” she said.

“Just call 508-693-2200 and make a reservation. You will get the best room available at the time, with harbor view or what I call the ‘steeple’ view, a look at Main Street from above.”

“It’s kind of snazzy to be able to get away without going to Boston,” she says. “Maybe go to a movie, have dinner.”
