Donald L. Clinton died of natural causes at his home in Arivaca, Arizona, on November 24, 2010. He was 78.
A gregarious and cheerful man, Don was a carpenter and talented wood carver who produced wooden signs, models, and birds. He carved a wonderful great blue heron that for many years perched in the Vineyard Haven living room of his daughter Norma.
Don was born August 9, 1932 in Cooperstown, New York where he met and married Cornelia Putnam Huntington, an Island resident. The couple spent summers on Martha’s Vineyard. In 1968, they and their three children moved to the Vineyard. Don and Connie later divorced but remained best of friends.
Don worked at the Martha’s Vineyard Shipyard for ten years. In 1991 he moved to Arizona where his eldest son lives.
Don was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, Douglas, and William, all of Cooperstown and his youngest son Stuart P. Clinton. He is survived by his eldest son, Donald Stephen Clinton of Arivaca, a daughter, Norma Jean Sigelman of Tisbury and grandchildren Zacciah, Chenoa, Silas, Mary Sage and Marlan.
