John P. Costello Jr. died in Falmouth Hospital on February 6 after a short illness. He was 63. Formerly of Oak Bluffs, John was a long-time resident of Ocean Park.
Born March 23, 1947, in Lexington, John attended St Joseph’s elementary school and St. Mary’s middle school in Waltham. He graduated from Xavier High School in Concord in 1966.
John graduated from Georgetown University in 1971.
John was the oldest son of the late John Patrick Costello Sr. and Thelma Goodwin Costello of Lexington and Oak Bluffs.
John was the older brother of the late Robert Costello, who died in 2008. John was also predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Mae Chaplow Goodwin, also of Oak Bluffs.
John is survived by his younger brother, James Costello, and his wife, Mary, of West Tisbury, and his sister Claire Costello Gray and her husband, Jack, of Vineyard Haven.
He is also survived by his niece Monica Gray Holtham, her husband, Bill, and their two sons, Liam and Jack Holtham, currently residing in North Carolina, and John’s nephew Nathan S. Gray of Vineyard Haven.
He will also be missed by many cousins and good friends.
Funeral services will be private. In the spring, John’s remains will be buried next to his mother and father in Lexington’s Westview Cemetery.
